Highlights 2019

In January 2019 IBEI launched its newest addition to its renowned master’s programmes: the Research Master’s in International Studies. The new Research Master’s is an interdisciplinary 120-ECTS credit programme, taught in English, that combines the study of complex problems in international politics and related areas, with
a strong focus on research methods in Social Sciences.

In July 2019, the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub (SciTech DiploHub) and IBEI, jointly offered a first-of-its-kind training on Science and Technology Diplomacy in a will to train the next cohort of leaders of a field that is increasingly essential to tackle humanity’s global challenges.

During February 2019, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science settled by the UN on 11 February, IBEI launched an initiative through its social networks in order to promote the figure of women in science, and posted a series of banners to stand out the researchof its female scientists.

IBEI and the Barcelona Center for International Affairs (CIDOB) signed in May a collaboration agreement with the aim of harnessing and enhancing their methodological and technical resources, promoting mutual knowledge and develop joint projects.

On November 2019, Branko Milanovic presented his new book “Capitalism, Alone. The Future of the System That Rules the World” with Pablo Astorga and Francesc Amat as chair and discussant.

Matthias vom Hau, Associate Professor and Ramón y Cajal Researcher at IBEI, obtained an ERC Consolidator Grant to carry out his research. He was one of the 301 top scientists and scholars across Europe selected by the European Research Council (ERC) to receive the prestigious Consolidator Grants.
