Letter from the President and the Director

Narcís Serra & Jacint Jordana

2018 has been a year of progress for IBEI. A significant number of new research projects and grants from competitive sources have been obtained this year. In this regard, one of the highlights would be GLOBE, a Horizon 2020 collaborative project about future trends in global governance that will be coordinated by IBEI. In parallel, IBEI has started to accept PhD students from UAB, UB and UPF programmes, who collaborate in our research projects under the supervision of IBEI faculty. Such developments, among others, reinforce the interactions between research and learning activities, shaping the distinctive character of IBEI as a community of scholars strongly committed to discovering and learning.

The progressive consolidation of a varied offer of graduate programmes in international studies at IBEI has been complemented with the establishment of a new Master’s Programme in Research in International Studies, a two-year programme that was granted initial accreditation this year. The Master’s programmes in International Development and in International Security, launched a few years ago, have now become solid pillars of our teaching offer, reinforcing and energizing, as specialist programmes, our commitment to developing a world-class graduate school in international studies.

Student satisfaction with our Master’s programmes has continued improving, and a number of initiatives and actions have been undertaken to provide a better learning experience to all participants in the Master’s programmes offered at IBEI. In particular, a special effort has been made to familiarize students with professional skills and practices, launching a practitioner lecture series and expanding our offer of professional workshops. Reinforcing such connections is a top priority for IBEI as a way of promoting the professional success of our graduate students.
